Hate to disagree, but...

I feel having a time limit makes conscientious people think a bit more before posting. Most anyway...

It's kind of like the care you take when talking if you know there is a tape recorder running compared to just talking with friends.

The persistence of the record makes you a little more aware.

Do you really want to be remembered for what you are about to type???

Ira

Several months ago in the thread that took suggestions for the new SI before its introduction, someone argued forcefully for dropping the editing window entirely. Fortunately, the suggestion wasn't followed.

His objection to the window was that the search engine (such as it is) does not index words in a message until the edit window closes. He apparently searches for messages frequently and wants near-instant indexing.

It becomes problematic if a message is edited after it's indexed since each edit would require a re-indexing (including removal from the index of words that were deleted).

<<<Maybe even an option for 24 hours after the message was posted an option to delete the message.>>>

Cheeky Kid, I enjoy your postings a lot. I am really thankful to you for your contribution to keep the old SI alive... But in this one particular instance, I respectfully disagree.

Though I understand your point, IMO one hour (forget 24 hours) is simply too much, which will be misused by a few, much to the detriment of the majority of SI folks.

15 minutes is sufficient IMO, one can review it any number of times, before the final submit!!!, right?

Gosh Cheeky, I guess you will have to give some thought to what you are going to say. <gg>

Hi Cheeky, got to roger-up and disagree with this idea too. I've seen many people abuse the 15 minute window by typing something nasty, and then changing it after a response was received. I can imagine there would be far worse abuse if given 24 hours.

Best, Michael
