Currently COMS share of the NIC business is sliding ... But 1GB enet will command a premium in the near term ADSL should begin to grow.

Side note: I work in IT and I know that I can buy a NIC made in Taiwan for 50-60% less than a 3com product but i tell you the support is not there with the cheap product.

Gary, here is some anecdotal evidence regarding tactics and execution by 3Com and Cisco:

I visited both the Cisco and 3Com web sites in the last few days to buy stuff. 3Com's web site was a pleasant surprise. The info was great and to the point and I was able to order very quickly and easily through an online reseller. I was impressed. Cisco's web site was excellent too, with lots of info, but I was not able to order easily -- finally had to call the sales office, where they tried to switch me to a different item than the one I was trying to buy. I can see how this tactic may make more money for Cisco, but at the end of the day I was not a happy Cisco customer.
