Using a gun is like using a piano ... while the basic concept is self-evident, steady practice is a MUST. Knowing how to use a gun requires steady access to the gun and its ammo. This means either you own the gun, or you are a member of an organization (army, police ...) that provides gun, bottomless barrel of ammo, cleaning area, range, instructor.

I believe that the right to NOT own a gun is right up there with the right TO own one. But if an individual is denied the right to own a gun, the reason should be better than "you live in a city".

Licenses are needed for carry, NOT ownership. The reason I am uneasy with licensing ownership is because there is a built-in registry. The consequences are ALWAYS bad - punitive taxation of gun owners, and eventual confiscation of firearms. The reason the NRA is hard set against registry is a sound one ... Each and Every time a registry was instituted anywhere ... it was a prelude to a gun grab. And I believe the law need to be written in modern English:

" the right of the citizen to own, operate, carry and/or bequeath firearms shall not be infringed or pre-empted by any government within the USA."

ok1day if you want to learn how to use a firearm...

Go take a class on proper firearms safety. Several shooting ranges and gun shops offer them.
Several ranges will rent out their guns to use on their range.

"I do not believe everyone should have the rights to own guns"
The only problem is how you legislate this in a country where everybody is considered equal under law. Sure convicted felon should not have the right to own one, but what about all the other people?

Ok

>> I do not believe everyone
should have the rights to own guns. And I believe very strongly waiting period and doing thorough checking before
giving out licenses.<<

Sometimes it helps to put things in the positive. What do you believe? Is the 2nd amendment a dusty old statute, what about the 1st? I am supposing by license you mean a license to carry a gun and not a license to own one. You wouldn't want to have to go get a license to speak at your city council meeting, or to start up your own neighborhood newsletter or pass around a petition to redress your grievances or assemble with your political friends to discuss campaign strategy. These rights all come from the same tree. Is the tree dead? Have you told your kids before they are fed this "non-sense?"

I am sincere that you should occasionally consider these rights and their "bloody" heritage.
