Robert-From the Newbridge Networks thread-posts #13415 &13422:
first Alan Lutz confirms an earlier projection that they will get to $1Bil in Broadband by 02 and then the sale of Stanford Telecom's component division to Intel. Pat Mudge is in Ottawa at the Newbridge annual meeting and I'm sure she will give us an update on their LMDS progress. At this point, it appears that VARL will have exciting growth on this front.
I hope that the NOK rumors turn out to be true-they would be one hell of a horse to ride in the handset business.
Did anyone else notice how grudgingly VARL gave ground in this very weak market today? I've been trying to add to my position without chasing the price up,but it won't co-operate.

Best regards,

Mike

Hi Robert,

I am looking right now for wireless components cos that will benefit from the strong growth in wireless com., cellular paging, PCS, and mobile instant messaging.

One of the companies I'm studying is Vari-L... I like their strategy to reorient themselves to target the commercial subscriber market, and the timing of their implementation that begun with added capacity (which was detrimental, as I understand, to the Varl share value through retained earnings and dilution).

I think Vari-l may be at a turning point now that several international cos may bring major orders : Lucent, Ericsson...and especially Nokia, which recently granted a preferred supplier status to Vari-l. If I remember well, RF Micro Devices do have the same status, and 70 % of their sales are coming form Nokia... I am also pleased to hear that they have patents recognized in China (though I don't know if we can expect an announcement soon concerning China).

Also, Vari-l may be at a turning point on the financial market side : many small cos aren't followed by analysts until they make it to 50 M in annual revenues.

Finally, I went on the Jobsearch website and have noticed Vari-l september openings, where they mention : "[...] our business is going through the roof [...]" (see jobsearch.monster.com/jobsearch.asp?co=xvarix).

Considering Nokia's wireless drive (see "How Nokia will Wireless the World", Wired, 09.99), I wonder if Vari-l may follow in the footsteps of RFMD...

However, I don't know if RFMD VCOs duplicate those of Vari-l. Is there any complementarity in RFMD and Vari-l components line ? What kind of competitive advantages does Vari-l have ? I heard that RFMD has some components which integrate oscillators and amplifiers (?)

By the way, do you know where I can get some information about North America preferred or sole-source suppliers to Nokia wireless.

Thank you very much !

(Please pardon my english : I'm french speaking and don't have time for proofreading)
