I am either very unclear, or no one wants to understand my point. Too many kids are getting hold of their parents guns. How do you solve that problem.....

I do not want to hear about everything else, just an answer, and if there is none, then we have to look how we can find one.

1> parental responsibility - if teh parents don't care, then care will not be taken by others...
2> education and familiarity - federal studies have shown a marked decrease in accidental shootings, crime, and violent behavior in youth familiar with firearms.
3> training - schools used to have archery clubs.
the javelin and shotput were taken away from WESTCO sports (highschool level) after a couple of stupid kids tried to play catch with both.
I know firearm training isn't gonna fly if kids can't use spears and bows responsibly....

You won't like my solution ... but it has the redeeming hallmark of simplicity. Redefine what constitutes a "problem". How many kids are doing dumb or mean things with their parents' guns? I suspect "not many". The media is relying on rare but spectacular aberrant events like Littleton and Paducah to insinuate that Our Youth Is Killing Each Other ... and further a longstanding campaign to demonize the firearm. What is missing from this discussion is a question of HOW MANY kids misusing family guns becomes a "problem". Don't say "one" because that is unrealistic and would suggest boundaries on the sincerity of the question. (Imho don't say "two" either.)

How many is too many? One kid is too many...but its not a rampant as you think. More kids burn their house down by playing with lighters and matches then shooting themselves of friend with their parents gun. But that aside....
If you have a kids in the house, you need to keep the gun locked up. Not using these stupid trigger lock.
There are plenty of safes that have access codes, so you can keep the gun loaded, in the safe, and you are able to get to it in about 1 seconds.
I have no kids running around my apartment. So I generally it unlocked.
Once I have kids, if it is not on me, it will be locked up. That’s just part of being a responsible parent.

Education.

Kids are naturally curious. Parents tell the kids "see this, don't touch" and then they put it away. This makes the kids even more curious. Educate them about firearms just like we educate them about every thing else.

Generally speaking, people are afraid of what they don't understand.

Any kid that gets ahold of a gun without direct parental contact and supervision has not been taught and disciplined right.

We as a nation have handed the kids permission slips to be disrespectful, disobey their parents, and unmoral with what they teach them in the government controlled public schools.

A child's right in my home, (and working for a youth detention home in New York for three years, this is both experienced and understood) is the right to obey me, respect me, and to be a kid. In turn I will provide for them, love them no matter what they do, and care for there needs.

Yet the schools will tell kids to call social services if they get spanked, tell the parent no, and explain to them that morals are based on "personal belief of right and wrong."

If we re-evaluate just what we are telling our kids, or moreso what they are telling our kids, I think we would be shocked. If anyone wants to place the blame for the kids in colombine and eugene and the church in texas and others, lets get it off the back of the gun owner and on to where the blame should be place. Frankly until we put the parents back in control of the kids, until we stop letting the social services control our kids, until we say no more legislation of the family, we will never see the violence and killing stop.
