DRAM Spot Prices Jump 11% After Taiwan Earthquake
NEWSBYTES

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Preliminary reports on DRAM (dynamic random access memory) trades conducted Tuesday show prices shot up 10.5 per cent in the wake of the large earthquake in Taiwan, industry sources say.
The spot price for 64 megabit DRAMs jumped from US$15 per chip on Monday to $16.58 late on Tuesday.

Taiwan produces around 10 per cent of the world's supply of DRAM chips and, while manufacturers report no major damage to factories, production was halted as electricity failed.

Stocks in Korean DRAM makers surged in Tuesday trading on anticipation that the companies would see short term gains as companies switch orders from Taiwanese makers which will be unable to complete them.

Among confirmed trades on Tuesday, quantities available were very limited, said the sources.
