JohnQ - The focus of the article was interesting in itself. I was unaware of some of the ratios mentioned on oil/gas. OPEC holds only 40% of the worlds gas reserves vs 75% for oil. 63 years worth of gas left vs 41 years for oil. The ratios/facts above point to more reasons why NG will be the fuel of choice in the future.

Ge: Gas to motor fuel posting: Sasol is a South African company that has been making motor fuels out of coal since about 1960. South Africa has huge coal reserves and no oil. We were involved in some of the construction of their plants in Sasolburg. The technology was based on work done by the Germans prior to and during WWII.

Great to see the application move to gas. I remember flying over Egypt at night and seeing huge glows in the sky to the East where gas was being flared off as waste material. Nice to see the chance to turn that all into something useful.

Unfortunately, the link that post contained no longer exists on the Exxon website. However, there is a more recent story there on the same subject.

IMO, this is one of the biggest issues that the oil industry will have to address in the 21st century.
