Agreed. In Richmond there was a very simple program called "Project Exile" which simply saw to the prosecution of every weapons offender. All while using existing law and full due process. Violent crime went down by more than half in Richmond.
The trouble with Project Exile is that it isn't as politically juicy as Gun Control. Enforcing laws while keeping gun rights intact doesn't seem to square with Building a Better World for our Children. BWDIK

Your slam on the NRA spoils an otherwise logical message. The NRA does not rant, and it is composed of responsible citizens, not "nuts," as you imply. You will find in the NRA more voters, more church goers, more conservationists, more veterans, and more generally upstanding people than you ever dreamed of. The NRA protects your freedom, even if you don't realize it or appreciate it. If you want to see ranting, there are plenty of groups that qualify, but the NRA is not one of them.
