I've defended Ballmer in the past here, but I'm with Jon on this one. His job is to worry about earnings growth, not the stock price. While he's entitled to his opinions on valuation, as an officer in the company he should keep his mouth shut about it.

I have great respect for Ballmer and Gates and their magnificent track record. However, I'm afraid this comment goes in the "screw-up" pile. I'll be watching closely to see if this is an aberration or the beginning of a pattern.

XiaoYao- re:speak for yourself...

Hi XiaoYao,

Thank you for your response.

If you still trust Ballmer, I am going to assume it is because you believe the statement he made concerning the stock price was done to enhance shareholder value. I may have this assumption wrong.

But if my assumption is correct, please explain to me how this statement enhances shareholder value.

Just my opinion, and thank you.

Jon :)

RE: He didn't actively destroys shareholder value, it may destroy some traders value, then who cares. $5 dollars drop in a 5 to 10 years period is nothing, absolutely nothing.,

I couldn't agree more. To a trader a $5 drop is a big deal. But to a long term investor it's a ho hum.

What I find fascinating is the market's reaction to Ballmer's remarks.

The market is extremely nervous.
