No, the ECC versions use 18-bit chips rather than 16-bit, so the memory available to the user is the same.

Good, no concession there. Any theories on the 3rd slot problem? I'm guessing stubs. If it's a stub problem, the traces to the 3rd slot would have to be cut. But if it is stubs, and they could be removed, why the cap requirement?
