Hi KZNerd; You know, that decision to go bare was the strangest thing I ever saw. I posted a note to the RMBS thread at the time saying that I didn't think INTC would really do it because it would put them in such jeopardy.

The only explanation I can come up with for it, is that they did because of the major difference between RDRAM and other memory types. Other memory advances allowed you to build a controller that would easily drive both the previous and the next memory type. Since they couldn't do that with Rambus, they decided to save money on engineering (and all that product support), and only support one memory type.
