I thought social conservativism was a term coined by conservatives, meaning those with a culturally defined agenda, vs. a fiscal one. At least that is the depiction from the papers out here. Here's an article from the LA times where they define Bauer as a "social conservative". My sense is that the libertarian philosophy is about as far away from these people as you can get. But why not go over there and ask them? (on the libertarian thread). Since a few are active in the party they can offer an actual agenda vs. someone's opinion.

Social Conservative Bauer Enters President's Race
Bauer, a former top aide to President Reagan and a staunch champion of the Christian right, enters the presidential fray at a time when some social conservatives, such as Paul Weyrich, are calling for Christian activists to retreat from politics and a secular culture they see as irreversibly hostile to traditional values. But Bauer is sticking to the political trenches to fight the culture war.

Okay, Bill---- Social conservatives are those who support outlawing abortion, are against gay marriage, support "lowering" the wall of separation between church and state to about the level of the late 60s (most would accept the decision banning mandatory prayer), and, in general, are described as having a "pro- family" agenda. They ally with other sorts of conservatives and libertarians on issues like vouchers and the abolition of the department of education, as well as tax relief. For purposes of simplicity, I have lumped all of those who would not be comfortable being labeled as social conservatives either among "conservatives" or "libertarians", since they will always lean in one or the other direction....
