Your "checks and balances" approach to voting makes some sense. However, I mainly lean republican because I dislike about 67% of them. I dislike 99% of democrats. Legislative gridlock is a very healthy thing for this country when you consider that 90% of bills passed have spending measures attached. Anyone who touts how many bills he got passed last year as an accomplishment gets a vote for his opponent from me.

And I disagree that republicans went into scandal chasing last year. This White House serves up a scandal a week, no chasing required.

If I thought that all authority figures ipso facto sucked, than I might agree. I respect people who have the burden of making decisions, however, and am willing to acknowledge that I do not always have the information to second guess them, nor can one always imagine being in their shoes. I dislike, as you may have observed, the easy assumption that they are all corrupt or cruel or stupid, and the unwillingness to try to imagine what range of motives might have been in play. They may not be above criticism, but they also should not be reflexive objects of contempt.....
