GE Wins Contracts of $280 Million to Supply 7FA Gas Turbines and Long-Term Services for New 600-Megawatt Power Plant in Taiwan

SCHENECTADY, N.Y., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- GE Power Systems has received contracts totaling more than $280 million to supply equipment and services, including long-term operation and maintenance (O&M), for a new, 600-megawatt combined-cycle power plant in Taiwan. The project will be GE's first installation of FA gas turbine technology in Taiwan, and also its first O&M contract there.

The new power plant will be located south of Taipei, in Kuanhsi Rural Township, Hsinchu County, Republic of China (Taiwan). It will be owned by Hsin Tao Power Corporation, and power will be sold to the Taiwan Power Company. A consortium including GE and Bechtel will design and build the new facility, with plant commissioning scheduled for the third quarter of 2001. Fired by natural gas, the combined-cycle plant will operate in daily peaking duty, with about 4,000 hours of service and 300 starts per year.

GE will supply three MS7001FA gas turbines, one GE steam turbine-generator and three heat recovery steam generators. The GE-Bechtel consortium's scope of supply also includes power train design and engineering, civil engineering, construction, technical service, installation and commissioning.

The services contract is for nine years, with the option of being extended. Under the terms of the contract, Atlanta-based GE Energy Services will provide full O&M of the entire facility from the flange on inlet, to the connection with the Taiwan Power Company grid. Included will be all parts and services, maintenance and repair of all components, training and management of the plant operational staff.

``In today's competitive market, power producers are looking for suppliers who can provide not only equipment, but also total, long-term power plant services and support,' said Robert L. Nardelli, president and chief executive officer of GE Power Systems. ``The Hsin Tao project is a milestone for GE in North Asia, and will demonstrate the comprehensive power plant capabilities we can offer our customers around the globe.'
