Wally: The only thing we learned today is that we will have a volatile period ahead. Know the data and news flow input and you will know the direction of the volatility. String some good news or economic data together and rally ho; string some bad news and economic data together and we will sink like a rock. And you could both rides for the price of one.

I am justa sitting on the sidelines looking for an overreaction in one direction or another.

Looks like Ballmer's call was on the money; Abby could not counter effectively. I am calling Ballmer now to subscribe to his newsletter.

Note how the media is too easy on Abby. They did not catch he "next move is up" mistake of Sept. 17th. Seves her right for short term market timing. What a joke. Her call was a clear sign of complacency. Meanwhile, they are ridiculing Ralphie and rightly so. He is like an annoying toy on a spring in the back seat ledge of your car. He is always bouncing around telling you where you have been. But Abby gets a pass. Can you say double standard?

The market is acting like a duck. Calm on top with the
S&P500 closing within 3 points of 1280 four days in a row
and volatile underneath with these same four days showing
interday swings of 1 or 2 percent.

Thursday 1280 close, 2% below the daily high.
Friday 1277 close, 1% above the daily low.
Monday 1283 close, 1% below the daily high.
Today 1282 close, 2% above the daily low.

FWIW, my three favorite gurus - Tom Dorsey, Wm O'Neil & BB
were negative on AOL recently. Tom has had a change of
heart -
