Actually, Lizzie, I can't disagree with any you stated in the post. Except perhaps your broad use of the term social conservative. You might try substituting "religious right" in your paragraph instead.

The best definition of a social conservative I've heard so far is from DMA, as one who wants to use the levers of government to advance a social agenda. The religious right would be one of several types of social conservative groups.
