Who is going to retrain the American people to vote for somebody who really knows what he/she is talking about. Don't we elect the one with the most charisma, and the best lines of bullshit? I am not very optimistic.

Joan and E for pres. They can take turns on alternate days.

Some very good points, Joan. One thing puzzles me though. Now that we're pals with Russia (or any nation) how do we go about legitimately by-passing its government to deal with its people?

By the way, last elected president who didn't have to learn on-the-job was the one before this one. Not saying he got all "A"s, but he didn't exactly fall off the back of the Tyson's chicken truck.

Joan, I wonder if I may impose upon you to ask this question; What do you know of the new book by Wayne Allensworth titled The Russian Question: Nationalism, Modernization, and Post-Communist Russia?

I recently read a review and was surprised at some of the ideas put forward by the author. He believes a nationalist of some sort will come to power after Yeltsin. He thinks Aleksandr Lebed may be that nationalist. He says Lebed would have military and Church support, as well as support from Solzhenitsyn. I have read elsewhere that Lebed has several monarchists as advisors. All this would be a rather startling (to some) contrast to the usual list of apparatchiks who are mentioned as possible successors. Do you think a guy like Lebed could really come to power?
