Just spoke with someone from Quantum. They still say that they will begin their volume ramp of SDLT sometime in "early 2000". They don't want to specify month at this point. Their evaluation units are out the door, and the only thing to do at this point is wait for word to come in on how they work.

My guess is that some--and perhaps a lot--of this recent selling of DSS and HDD comes from many people who arbitraged the Meridian deal. They could care less about DSS fundamentals, they were just out to get the difference between MDCD stock and the purchase price, a difference which was pretty wide for several weeks.

I still think that DSS has a better shot at defending their market position than Exabyte or LTO has at taking it away. But, as you say, those differences are what make a market.
We'll have to see.
