A lot of the selling could have been due to Meridian shareholders who dumped their shares after the deal went through, but I think a large institution also decided to exit HDD/DSS before the end of the quarter due to the possibility of a revenue miss on DLT sales. I'd be interested to know from Quantum how much stock they have been buying back--if any--recently. They need to support this stock before it is no longer a teenager. A recent Lehman report on DSS says that management will keep Wall Street informed of how the quarter's revenues went before earnings are released. Wouldn't you love to be included on the list of people who gets this treatment? We'll only know after the fact. I'm assuming that since the selling in DSS has abated quite a bit that there is not huge problem with quarterly revs, but we'll see.

<< They still say that they will begin their volume ramp of SDLT
sometime in "early 2000". They don't want to specify month at this point. Their evaluation units are out the
door, and the only thing to do at this point is wait for word to come in on how they work.>>
Based on my hazy understanding of how things work, after the evaluation units, they will probably have qualification units which come off the regular assembly line and go to OEMs for Qaul. Much earlier, regular production units will be selling into distribution in volume due to much less rigorous testing. The long time until any significant volume for SDLT makes one wonder how many issues remain unresolved.

My recollection of DLT 7000 was that QNTM talked about it being in production long, long before they had any real volume. Unfortunately, I don't believe I still have my notes. -Z
