I think that Petzinger on the AMD thread figured out what Intel will do to fix Vancouver. Check out:

It looks like Rambus won't work with 3 slots even if the 3rd slot isn't occupied. So what is the solution? Junk the boards? Very expensive. Rework the boards? Not likely.

Petz suggested providing a special RIMM module which only provided termination resistors. Of course they would be placed as close as possible to the connector which brings Rambus onto the module. This special RIMM would be placed in the 3rd slot and shortens the bus with no rework required. SLots 1 and 2 could then be used. Best would be if the special RIMM could be stuck in the 3rd slot so that it could not be removed in order to prevent someone from trying to use it.

They could even call the special module the "discontinuity module."

I think that Petz should pop into Intel and put his idea in the Employee Suggestion Box. (The way things are going I doubt that anyone at Intel or Rambus would come up with the idea.)
