Re that discontinuity module... Take the idea a step further. Provide "discontinuity RIMMs": RIMMs with memory, but that include the termination resistors, and would have to be put in the last slot. (i.e. slot 2?)

What a bag!

The thing they really need to do is to figure out how the problem got past the simulations and testing.

I had read somewhere that unpopulated RIMM sockets required such a module anyway.

I doubt if any rework will work.

I expect that millions of 2 RIMM boards are in risk production as we speak, while validation testing occurs.

Does anybody know what leadt-times would be for such boards.

My guess is that with Intels money they should be able to manufacture and stuff a board in 3-4 weeks.
