MrGreenJeans, your positioning yourself for short term rally would certainly go along with Bob's lack of a negative call, sentiment that is the least bullish since 1998 correction and FWIW this fellow ariadne that might be one of the smarter posters on BB.com now that hawkeye is gone

MGJ: I think the idea of a rally is sound. Sentiment is negative enough to provide good fuel. Question is as to timing. Make no mistake, this is a good opportunity here at this level for long term investors in an on going bull market. Personally, I prefer to wait for a nice bottom. But that is my personal situation speaking in addition to my analysis of the market and economic conditions.

Re: 'Third quarter profits will come in strongly'; & Y2K inventories:

Despite the usual 3rd quarter warnings going on -

Food for thought-

What will be the impact if companies switch from 'just in time' inventory planning to 'just in case' to hedge against Y2K supply line interuptions/delays.

There could be some overstocking of inventories in 4th quarter 99. If so, that might cause higher production in 4th quarter - but perhaps lower production/orders in 1Q 2000......
