Father O'Malley had spent several years with the good sisters in the Holy Mary convent as a spiritual advisor and now it was time for him to leave. At his farewell dinner Father O'Malley gave a speech and said, "In all my travels I have never been so blessed as I have been in these last few years among all of you wonderful sisters; but, I must say that I have felt at times, being the only man, like a thorn among the roses." After the applause, the mother superior spoke about how much they had enjoyed the good father's stay and ended, "...but I must say that even though Father O'Malley says that he was a thorn among the roses, in all his time with us no one ever felt his prick."
