How very pithy of you. I must confess I am confused by your analysis of how the AC shares are valued by the market. You are correct to suggest that shareholders are happier now with the higher price. But you know a lot of AC shareholders were very happy a few years ago when the stock traded at 14.75. hmmmmmmmmmmm. And this was done without Onex. So I wonder how they did it. I wonder what will happen to the share price when AC and the star alliance put together a counterproposal?
Do you believe the current share price indicates the long term potential of this airline or could it possibly be just an indication of the current short term thinking surrounding a potential merger or buyout.
I am suggesting that your analysis of Onex's effect on the share price is short term. If you want to talk about Mgmt's ability to create shareholder value you have to think long term. unless your a trader.
The question you seem to be in need of asking is where will we be 5 years from now if we go with Onex?? What are the obstacles? how will they overcome them? What are people in the industry saying both positive and negative?
Regardless, A merger means merged debt. Big debt. All the reasons for Canadians demise remain and will become a drain on the PROFITABILITY of AC. This deal is just plain stupid if you are an AC shareholder. This deal is super smart if you are a CA shareholder.
If AC could negotiate a deal that keeps CA alive and makes AC the dominant international carrier in Canada without assuming any CA debt then we win LONG TERM.
If we vote no to Onex then what do think will happen?????? What do you think will happen to CA??????? What do you think will happen to AC's market share???????
Do try to remember that it is CA who is going under. AC would naturally gain from this. And they should. They have survived were CA has failed. AC should get to position itself as the dominant carrier.
AC and its shareholders are holding all the cards now. Think long term. Think maximum shareholder return.
