Joe, Fujitsu is a computer maker (which started making plug compatible mainframe computers to compete with the equivalent IBM product. Both IBM and Fujitsu products were designed by the former IBM employee Gene Amdahl, who later started his own company, which was eventually acquired by Fujitsu.). Though the name is similar to Fuji, the film and camera producer, the two companies are different. The name Fuji is very popular, as it is the name of the famous volcano not far from Tokyo.

At any rate, I think I can see where the Sony announcement will eventually end up. People who make the mistake of choosing the memory stick in place of the more versatile CF, and particularly the second generation CF that includes encryption for security applications, will eventually be forced to admit they're stuck with the stick. Meanwhile, if I recall Harari's earlier comments, the stick makers will still be stuck paying royalties to SanDisk.

This may be the first real threat to SNDK. It is interesting to see how market has reacted to the news. Maybe there will be a delayed reaction.
