You have observed before that the U.S.S.R. did act as something of a stabilizing force, for all of its failings. I agree that the collapse appears to have been too abrupt in light of some of the chaos now raging.

Those Russians who pine for the "bad old days" and wish they could return to being told what to do, when to do it and how to do it, are mindless fools. They don't want life... they want to be robots. They are afraid of freedom and the responsibilities it brings. Mostly, they are afraid of risk, afraid of failing and afraid that they can't blame others if they do fail.
