Well, at least it should be applied to stocks with extreme volatility. But, that does not necessarily mean that the stock should be restricted from shorting. That's what I do not understand. is

Look at your monthly brokerage statement and see how much the margin interest charges can add up. And how often have you had to exit a good investment because of a margin call? The darned stock market always seems to stick to its own schedule. It's real tough darting nimbly in and out. Just two more things decreasing your chance for success. It doesn't sound like Datek is the broker for you. I want low commissions, good executions, and rarely do I short. So Datek is perfect for me.
