Gordon A. Langston, The point I got from the automobile analogy is that it is not the gun or the car that is responsible for how it is used. It is the person using it who bears the responsibility.

C Kahn

Gordon A. Langston, To further clarify my point, in the case of free speech, free press, etc., there is no doubt where the responsibility lies.

If I say something or print something, I am 100% responsible for it. There is no object to be blamed if someone doesn't agree with what I say or print.

OTOH, a gun or a car will only do what I make it do. So I still bear the responsibility of the action of the car or gun.
