(Nasdaq: LIOX) today announced a joint agreement with Microsoft Corp. whereby Lionbridge will provide technical support and coaching to Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) within Microsoft Windows 2000 development labs around the world. They will help ISVs meet the standards of the Application Specification for Windows 2000 and have their applications "Certified for Windows." Under the agreement, Lionbridge will rapidly deploy in-country bilingual engineers based in key Microsoft development labs in ten cities around the world, including Munich; Paris; Tokyo; Sydney; Reading, England; and other sites to be announced. Through its worldwide network of VeriTest Labs, Lionbridge will train engineering coaches, who will be called Technical Account Managers, to give seminars, demonstrate test techniques for Windows 2000, and provide one-on-one help to developers working to meet Microsoft standards for supporting the new features in Windows 2000. As previously announced, Lionbridge's VeriTest Labs in Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Paris are authorized to test both desktop and server applications worldwide for Microsoft's new "Certified for Windows" program. "Our business depends on understanding the complexity of worldwide software markets and the needs of international developers," said Rory Cowan, president and CEO of Lionbridge, "whether they are working in traditional client/server environments or on the Web. This expanded relationship with Microsoft will build on our worldwide support infrastructure and create a significant resource for the Windows-based IT industry." Lionbridge is a leading localization engineering and testing company, with 75% of its employees and business outside of the United States. Lionbridge operates 12 facilities in 7 countries. "We selected Lionbridge's VeriTest Labs because of its experience in global markets and its knowledge of the technical issues faced by multinational developers," said Brian Valentine, vice president of the Business and Enterprise Division at Microsoft Corp. "Our goal is to make it easy for ISVs anywhere in the world to follow the Application Specification and to deploy great Windows 2000-based applications in increasingly shorter development cycles. This training environment, coupled with the enhanced Application Specification and certification program, will help ensure that developers worldwide have confidence in the compatibility and smooth operation of their Windows 2000-based applications." The work of the Technical Account Managers will be guided by the Application Specification for Windows 2000, available on the web at msdn.microsoft.com and will also guide ISVs and other developers through the "Certified for Windows" process at VeriTest labs in Los Angeles, Tokyo and Paris. In addition, Technical Account Managers will be demonstrating the use of Rational TestFoundation for Windows 2000, jointly developed Rational Software and VeriTest.
