<< Without the possibility of evil happening, everything and everybody would just be puppits on a string. >>

Do you really believe this? Do you think that, without evil, we would not have made it to the moon, that we would not have cured diseases, that we would not have enjoyed strip shows?

We don't need evil to be free.

But, unfortunately, we do have evil. Men's minds come in all different types, some with the capacity to do great harm to others and some with the capacity for compassion. It's kinda like the luck of the draw at birth.

<< Of course, this view means that God keeps more or less hands-off the world ... >>

It also means that God keeps His hands off of the afterworld, also. There is more crime in Heaven than there is on Earth. Some of the worst of humanity have had their sins forgiven and they now run things in Heaven. There's a big probability that the evil souls, that have been forgiven, have taken over Heaven.

Just when you figured that it couldn't get worse, the Catholic church now wants to forgive any dispicable act or crime, if the criminal just gives up smoking for a day. Heaven is going to get awful crowded! <g>

Brumar,

Unless of course it is his/her will that we have those freedoms. It is impossible to reach great heights unless there is a relative depth that goes along with it.
