Luc, an unexpected rate hike would cause major damage to the stock market which would exacerbate dollar weakness. Dollar weakened all through '94 as Fed continued to raise rates. The Fed has not given the usual warnings and will not surprise the market. Easy Al will not risk an unanticipated hike that could tank the stock market. He does not want to be blamed for directly popping the bubble.
