Well, if your point was that slavery was still legal within the Union after the Emancipation Proclamation, no argument here, as it was also still legal in Maryland, and Kentucky, as well. I believe Kentucky is properly termed part of the South, and I have no idea whether Maryland is North or South, my tendency would be to say North, based on the type of people who live in the People's Republic of Montgomery County and the People's Republic of Tacoma Park. Neo lives in Maryland, for example, and I find it hard to think of Neo as a Southerner. Ditto Joan.
