Greetings Mark, Finally have a little time to respond to you. You never did answer my question on what was your understanding of " unconditional love"............would appreciate hearing what you understand it to mean to you. Yes I agree that the "works " you describe being done by others for others is very very good, BUT, the fact remains that it has been delivered by a vessel( people )who are in a state of rebellion against a Holy God. We as humans see these good "works " done by others and we make judgements then by what we see done in the natural realm. God not only sees this but He sees the origin of these "good acts ", that is the " heart " of man. God has declared that ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. The fact remains We all are born with a nature in rebellion to God and this nature can best be described as " independent and selfish ". Mahatma Ghandi and Mother Theresa indeed have done humanity great service by their labours but this can never be the basis to establish some degree of rightousness with God. God has declared ALL are under sins domain..................but, Only God could reconcile Man with God, and that is what He has marvelously done through the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. You need to see your true condition Mark as you really are. You make mention of so called " good people " doing good works, have you considered even thieves, robbers etc do the same deeds among themselves. The issue here is not the deeds done it is where they have originated from. There is one standard ALL humanity has been judged by and that person is the Lord Jesus Christ. When we begin to see our true condition outside of God we then begin to embrace the wonderfull Gospel.Hope this helps you to understand where I am coming from. Robert
