Without really studying it the article attributes the "flatness" to INTC's loss of control of the low end of the market. I guess this where they best do their dan niles imitation.

It does not jibe to accuse the low cost producer of losing the low end of the market. True this silly stock market has pumped shtloads of cash at new upstarts giving away pc's but that pigeon is going to come home to roost real soon now. Those companies will collapse. The foremost example may be AMD.

These 'new era' business plans might be generally characterized as follows:

We loose a little on each sale, but we make it up on the Volume. :)

At the high end, and I sound like an AMDer here, machines such as Apples G-4 and AMD's Athlon may be "more power than a person needs". Before you go what!!! let me add that the best allocation of resource may tend more to parallel/daisey chain processing.

It may be that the G4 and the Athlon as stand alone systems end up eating each others lunch.

The question that maybe someone who knows on this tread is how good are these machines as SERVERS??? And doesn't this have a lot to do with the size of the cache, more than the processing power of the cpu?? And could rmbus be primarily for this purpose? Or does 133 go in either the fast prosessing or the server direction??

At any rate, the Speed Cup may be like the Ryder Cup, back at home on the last day of the tournament in another month.

comments/criticisms welcome. I hope these issues are not too waco.
