My objection to SCSL for Solaris rests on entirely different grounds than the objections of the slashdot religious flamers. They turn me off like all religious flamers do. I don't think Sun's trying to fool or manipulate anyone. I think the problem is precisely the opposite: that they're fooling themselves if they think that this approach is going to get them a lot of free labor. My anxiety on SCSL (for Solaris, not Java and Jini, where I think it's fine) is related to all the stories we're seeing about how Solaris is eating HP/UX's lunch. Solaris is a good product because it has been developed in a certain way by Sun over many years. Will SCSL entail a change for the better in how Solaris is developed? I claim nobody knows, and that Sun has to be careful in their approach, because it could just as easily entail a change for the worse. --QS

when did i bring up msft? when did i say that i APPROVE of free software? you are missing my point. the point is that sun.com is trying to create the illusion that they are LINUX. Nothing could be FURTHER from the truth. will you stop bringing up msft? this is about sun.com. THEY made the press release. go have another beer on me JC.
