Re: "What I mean is: Can individual parts be individually tested and have enough margin that they work together with a very low failure rate when assembled in mass production?"

Every manufacturer tests each and every part they ship. What does "test" mean? It frequently means different things to different manufacturers.

KZ, We have read about some trace lengths being too long, well at 400-800 mhz we are looking at even small trace lengths having appreciable transit time for timing pulses and we also have impedance matching problems and SWR problems all of which can cause mobile high and low voltage points that can cause confusion if they are interpreted as a signal instead of the noise they are. They may have trouble with too small a difference between signal and noise on these lines? At 1000 Mhz a wavelength in free space is just over a foot so a quarter wave is 3" and thus strange additions and cancellations can cause false operations to take place and false data to be clocked through.Propagation is even slower in tracespace...I do not know how much.
They almost need to have a shield plane on top of and beneath each data trace as well as isolation leads between them so they can get a known path impedance for the data to travel. All this takes space and trial and error.
This is just conjecture, I expect they will release the truth soon, they have to.
