Actually, the POG held up pretty good in the '87 crash, it was the gold stocks that followed the DOW down the toilet after lunch on October 19, 1987.
Still the last paragraph refering to a gold spike is tenuous at best...

Of course I don't see what's going on in SAf, only NY, but it's interesting to me that on a day when POG was strong Anglo was up 6.1% while goldfields was up 11.7%.
