The article below states that the E family will offer 10-20% improvement in benchmarks over standard PIII's. This is very good for Intel.

It also says that initially 700Mhz will be max frequency with 733 later in quarter.

As Athlons offer 5% to 45% improvement depending upon benchmark - I think this tends to confirm your statements that it will be a horserace.

However the frequency is lower than I would have anticipated.
