Nokia To Test Wireless CDMA In China
HONG KONG, CHINA, 1999 OCT 4 (NB) -- By staff, IT Daily. Mobile telecom producer Nokia has teamed up with China's Research Institute of Telecommunications Transmission (RITT) to test WCDMA (wireless code division multiple access) systems in the country.
RITT and Nokia will set up and operate an experimental field trial based on Nokia's WCDMA system. The trial will be used for evaluation of the technology in a real operational environment, as well as a demonstration and evaluation of new value-added services and applications.

RITT is a non-commercial institute of the Ministry of Information Industries (MII). It plays a role in coordinating the technical specification and standardization of telecom technologies in the country.

The first experimental field system will be installed in Beijing. The system is composed of network equipment, software and mobile terminal prototypes needed to allow testing of coverage, speed, handovers, power control and general functionality. The system will be delivered this month and testing will start later this year.
