Shanghai cites Applied's Morgan for helping city's high-tech

SHANGHAI--Applied Materials Inc. chairman and CEO James C. Morgan received Shanghai's annual Magnolia Award for contributions in helping to grow the high-technology sector in the city.

The awarded is presented each year to a non-citizen for contributions in development of Shanghai. This year, Morgan received the award Shanghai was preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the People's Republic of China.

"During the last five years, we have successfully worked as partners with the Shanghai R&D Fund to help foster microelectronics and information technology development in China's universities and research institutes," Morgan said.

This year's recipients of the Magnolia Award also included Toshihiko Kuniyoshi of Huahong-NEC, William Keller of Roche Shanghai, and William Walsh Jr. of Project Hope.
