Most of the folks are off welfare now. they can't afford a free pc so they buy tivo.

george, I kind of agree with you here.. there is a lot of hype.. But for tivos that are $499 now, I'm sure there is more than enough demand for the limited supply. As hard drives increasing become cheaper, that tivo will have 3 times the capacity for half the price by about this time next year. When I said everyone will own one of these.. It will probably be within 5 years or so when tivo are less than $200. Who knows, maybe some day these will be given away for free and come with specialized advertising built into the shows.

Think about some of the future posibilities. It is already possible to blend products and other adversting items into old movies and pictures. Technology exists to 'paint' advertising on the boards of hockey games while they are being viewed. Now image shows like Friends or Seinfeld which are downloaded and merged with you personal interests so that the box of cereal held up by one of the actors happens to be a brand that you like or may like...

PVR is the wave of the future until true video on demand can occur.. which won't occur until we get enough bandwith created..(5 to 10 years??). I also think the networks will eventually agree with and embrace this model of direct advertising.
