>>take an unexceptional story (who has not seen films of the death camps) and imagine an identical elaboration of it."

Garry Wills p 169

Wills is a lousy historian with anachronistic analysis. If he knew what Reagan actually did during the war then he would have known that the story was exceptional because Reagan saw the censored films before the military staff and probably the President. There is little doubt that the Israelis were confused.

I remember an interview with Robert Wagner, the actor, in which he related that Bette Davis had told him that Ronald Reagan had told her decades before that he was going to be President of the United States. Imagine a man with such foresight! I guess Morris was right when he called Reagan "superhuman - an immortal".

Anyway, I'm glad that you concede the point.

>>What do you think about Reagan saying to hecklers in the World Parliament, about Nicaragua, "They haven't been there. I have." ? (He hadn't.) Fatigue? Misspeaking? Poor English on the part of the listeners?

No. You are too literal in your suppositions. That's a rhetorical device.
