Mehrdad, this is just a rumor that circulated in England today. I only know what I posted at this point. Owning one's OS may not be the best long term strategy, if there are other potentially better OSes around (e.g. look at Apple, which owns its OS, vs Dell or AOL which do not). OS ownership means lots of development expense to stay competitive. At this point Palm is a dominant brand with a potential of building an extremely profitable portal (palm.net)and with excellent economies of scale which result in good hardware profits. The main advantage of Palm OS is the extremely usable (and patented) user interface, the graffiti language, etc. These elements can easily be ported to a different core OS running on a competitive processor core (such as ARM). This eliminates the considerable expense and risk of core hardware and software development. Again, this is just speculation on my part based on the rumor.
