I don't want to get in a big wrangle over the mediocrity that DSL is, but that isn't QWST's future. I've read your arguments elsewhere on that point, but I've missed your views on this subject: Do you think there's a valid business case for DSL as a transitional technology? It strikes me that DSL works best in areas where fiber-to-the-door (or nearby) is most expensive. DSL is problematic in many of the same areas where FTTD could be implemented most efficiently. Central downtown office buildings, suburban office parks, and newer suburbs are the areas most likely to have close-fiber connections or to get them very soon. DSL, on the other hand, works best in the fringe downtown business areas and high-density urban neighborhoods served by the oldest copper plant where fiber upgrades would be most expensive. DSL may be a mediocrity, but it's a far more efficient use of that old copper plant than a 56K modem could ever be. It may not have much of a future, but doesn't it make sense for QWST (+ USW) to use DSL now to deliver local BB services in areas that are unlikely to ride the light any time soon?
