Hi John,..Re:. confident that the newswires/TV would still be bombarding us with stories (of troubles for those companies) if Taiwan would be worse than feared

If the media only latch onto 'sensational' type business news, it's likely they would have missed the following two news items out of Taiwan. <g> Tabloid business journalism? LOL!

Taiwan Chipset Deliveries Grow in September, Despite Quake

nikkeibp.asiabiztech.com
October 6, 1999 (TAIPEI) -- Taiwan's three leading chipset producers said their operations were unscathed by the earthquake that shook Taiwan last month.

[Taiwan Quake] Graphics Chip Inventory Sufficient After Tremor

nikkeibp.asiabiztech.com
October 5, 1999 (TAIPEI) -- Although the output of graphics chips decreased due to the power outage and electricity rationing after the Sept. 21 earthquake, Taiwan's graphic manufacturers say they have enough stock to meet demand until the end of October.

They added that there is thus no imminent supply shortage crisis.

Cheers,

Lee

Hi John,..OT

Just saw this and ROFLMFO! The Fed did OPEN MOUTH operations yesterday! LOL!

Funds see Fed on target, but equities will suffer

biz.yahoo.com
''They have been doing open mouth rather than open market operations,'' said Paul Griffiths, head of international fixed income at Invesco in London, with $10.5 billion under management. ''They worked the markets into making the rate rise for them.''

Cheers,

Lee
