At Foothill High School this last month 8 student leaders were suspended and transferred to another high school in the district for violating a "zero tolerance" rule against using drugs or alcohol at a school sponsored event, in this case, a leadership conference (imagine that) at UCSB. You might guess that these kids were not poor and the parents got lawyers and voila, exceptional circumstances (an undefined term) were claimed and the students are back in class with some sanctions on them. However the previous 45 students that "were" suspended and transferred were obviously never defended by anyone in the community and everyone was feeling berry, berry good about "zero tolerance"

Justice always seems to have a price.
