I respect what you have said, Snapper; and I do not wish to get too esoteric with this; however, the subscription rules may well have been valid in terms of contract law, but I think many here are considering that, insofar as the SI cyberspace society is distinct and autonomous, it certainly has not been democratic. No-one voted on the rules. They were dictated. It was/is contract law. I appreciate that. Perhaps I am being too futuristic in attempting to move this argument into a different realm. The world is changing very fast. Cyberspace is become a world community. Whether or not we believe in democratic principles, we need to contribute our thoughts to this new paradigm. One of the toughest issues that lie immediately before us is how LAW will change and adapt to meet the unique dynamics of the internet world.

I agree with you that it is feckless to vote on the suitability of everyone who violates the rules. But my question is this: do you wish to vote on the rules...or will you accept the authority, integrity, and intelligence of Machiavelli?? Those in authority at SI know that I mean this in the symbolic sense? Do you wish this site to remain absolutely contractual...or do you wish to experiment with a little bit of democratic voting?? I believe that either answer is correct. As I said: I respect all those who differ with my opinion. Cheers. :)
