I don't, personally, know anyone who saw combat even during VietNam,

My uncle John was killed in Viet Nam. He was my favorite uncle too. But he wanted to go. He did one tour and came home. He should have stayed home after the first one but he wanted to go back. I really don't know why. He was on choppers and they flew into a mountain. I can't say that his death served his country unfortunately. But he went willingly for what's that's worth.

My dad was a clerk in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He never saw any combat but he felt he served his country.

There are no political reasons to fight wars anymore. I'm afraid i feel now like the students in the 60's did back then. That it's all to benefit some rich man somewhere or we don't have any business there anyhow.

WAITAMINUTE, COBE!

However did you conclude that I think they should be "ashamed" of their service?

What kind of jump did you make from my position to that?

My position is that neither the fabulating President, Reagan, nor anyone else, should pretend to have made sacrifices they did not.

It is not only just creepy, it trivializes the sacrifices of those who ACTUALLY MADE THEM. For example, to claim commonality of sacrifice with those who had not been able to make love to their wives for a long, hard, dirty, dangerous, and heartbreaking time, when you had been catching your zzz's next to yours in Hollywood is NOT NICE.

At best.

It's like sporting a purple heart you bought in a pawn shop. Expressing disgust at that action is hardly saying that all those who didn't earn purple hearts should be ashamed. For God's sake. Where are you coming from?
