Merced (Itanium) is a lot more than 6 months late, and you know it.

That's true...the date originally given to software developers (in '97) was 1H '99 - same timeframe as Katmai. Katmai arrived on schedule (although not with Camino), while Merced is delayed about a year.

My view on IA64 has changed 180 degrees from back then. Now I think it is simply irrelevant...a niche product. Not "the future".

Mani - Re: "Merced (Itanium) is a lot more than 6 months late, and you know it."

Intel said Mid 2000 - a slip from end of 1999 - so that makes 6 months.

If you feel better thinking it is 5 years late, go ahead.

However, MerDUD is out and it WORKS !

AMD's 64 bitter is just beginning the design stage.

Guess who's in the lead ?
