There is speculation on the AMD thread that there has been at least one solution proposed that has been rejected by the OEMs for cost or other reasons.

(I don't know what an unacceptable solution would be, I could propose the following three: an 8 layer board or all DRDRAMS soldered to the motherboard or a return to the "wind tunnel" - but I don't know if any of these are either unacceptable nor whether or not any of them could solve the problem)

Do you think this will hold until October 25, when Coppermine is scheduled for release? I'm thinking (speculating) that the OEMs want INTC to produce the whole fix if possible, but if its not available by then, they will agree to go ahead with the "two slot solution".

Thoughts?
